Try Some Uni!

First, what exactly is uni?

Uni, also known as sea urchin, is a culinary delicacy in many parts of the world, including Japan. Uni is also commonly used in pasta, eggs, soup, etc.

When you come to our Japanese restaurant in Seattle, don’t miss out on the opportunity to try the fine delicacy that the Japanese call uni sushi. This is a form of nigiri sushi made with the edible part of sea urchins. Fans of this sushi love its creamy consistency and its light, sweet taste, which has made uni a highly-sought after dish throughout the world.

The meat used on uni sushi is often mistaken for the sea urchin’s eggs. However, it is in reality the organs that produce the eggs or milt. Some people therefore consider uni sushi to be a form of aphrodisiac. Though there may not be much real scientific evidence to support for this claim, it remains true that uni is a rare and fascinating treat for the avid sushi lover. Try it out at I Love Sushi in Seattle!

Not All Sushi is Raw

Haven’t tried sushi yet?

Maybe it’s your first time at a sushi restaurant in Seattle and you’re skeptical about eating raw fish. Or, you just avoid sushi in general. Do not fear. I Love Sushi has plenty of cooked options for you to start off with. One of the more popular cooked sushi is the California Roll, which is avocado, cucumber, and imitation crab meat (“kamaboko” or “surimi”) wrapped in rice. That doesn’t sound too bad right?

Next is our sweet and savory eel (“unagi” or “anago”) always comes cooked, as well as most clam sushi. Octopus (“tako”), squid (“ika”), and shrimp (“ebi”) often come grilled, although not always! Some dishes like “sweet shrimp” are uncooked, but don’t be afraid to branch out; the raw fish used in sushi is always frozen beforehand as a way to kill bacteria and parasites.
